3dfx Voodoo3 Driver



  • The 3Dfx Voodoo 1 was one of the first 3D based graphics card that was affordable for home-based computer systems. By 1996 there was over 100 PC (Windows/DOS) games titles that supported the Voodoo chip sets. Most old Voodoo graphics cards should work with newer versions of Windows. In the case of DOS and Windows 95, XP etc the drivers are below.
  • Download 3Dfx Voodoo drivers. April 1998 Release Notes-This is version 1.10, rel.0398 of the Monster 3D driver.
  • In August 2000, Nvidia sued 3Dfx claiming 3Dfx was infringing on five of Nvidia’s patents and requested an injunction barring 3Dfx from selling and distributing its Voodoo3, Voodoo4, and Voodoo5.

The Voodoo3's RAMDAC, which took the rendered frame from the framebuffer and generated the display image, performed a 2x2 box or 4x1 line filter on the dithered image to almost reconstruct the original 24 bit render. 3dfx claimed '22 bit' equivalent. Beta, DirectX8 Driver, NO 3dfx Tools The V1.03.00 DirectX7 Driver has been found to make the racing game GTA3 often work with a Voodoo3. However, reports indicate success is most likely only on intel based Systems, while commonly failing on Athlon based systems.

Y'all keep asking me for my driverrecommendations for Voodoo2 cards, so here goes:

Right now I recommend the 2/1/99reference driver - all others that came later are screwed up.

For Athlon systems you should be using the hacked V2 Athlon drivers from xcl-clan.com

I recommend the v1.463Dfx miniport for Quake2 engine games, and the MetabyteWickedGL miniport for Q3A and SoF.
